The first time I stepped foot into my sister’s lab at the age of fourteen, I instantly fell in love with the environment. Her work has always fascinated me, and inspired me to unravel the fascinating components of biology. By majoring in biology and minoring in biochemistry at USC, I am confident that I will gain dynamic opportunities to conduct groundbreaking research on various biochemical components in a lab setting.
USC provides a wealth of knowledge on all facets of biology and provides a multitude of experiences in the field of research. Building on my prior experiences working on biomedical sensors and conducting biochemical research of proteins, I hope to work alongside professor Donald Arnold, to further his research on neurodegenerative diseases. This opportunity will provide me with the experience I need to later conduct my own research on biological illnesses. Additionally, USC offers a variety of classes that will build upon the courses I completed at my community college but also delve into subjects that are unique to USC that pique my interest, notably “The Brain in Health and Disease,” that focuses on disease and treatments for neurological conditions.
What sets USC apart is its perfect environment for research with one of the best medical research facilities and clinical research opportunities, which many other schools lack. This makes USC the ideal place for me to gain the knowledge and experience to pursue my future goals.
